Q

Poker Math (Implied Odds)

What are implied odds?

A

They are the ratio of the future pot size to your contributions to the current and future pot. For instance if the pot size is $100 and and you have to call for $10 and in the next round you will call a single bet of 20 dollars then the implied odds are 100+20:10+20 or 120:30 or 4:1. You are risking $30 for $120.

43
Q

Poker Math (Implied Odds)

Implied Odds
[(1 / EQ} * C] - (P + C)
C = How much you have to call right this moment
P = Size of the pot after your opponent bets
EQ = Your hands equity vs their betting range
If the resulting calculation is negative, it means you already have correct pot odds to continue.

A
Shortcut Gap method:
You are getting 2:1 but need 3:1
Gap of 1, The bet is $10
1 * $call ($10)
You need to make $10 later in this hand to make this an acceptable call.
44
Q

Poker Math reverse implied odds

What are reverse implied odds?

A

Where the odds get worse than the pot odds because your current made hand might not hold up.

45
Q

Poker Math (Breakeven Percentage)(BE%)

You bet $50 into a $75 pot. What is the immediate breakeven percentage
of your bet?

A

BE% = Risk / (Risk + Reward)

$50 / ($50 + $75) = 40%

46
Q

Poker Math (Expected Value)(EV)

What is EV? The EV of your line lets you know if your play is expected to make you profit in the longrun, or lose you money.
EV = [%W * $W] – [%L * $L]
%W = How often we will win a hand
$W = How much will we win when we win the hand
%L = How often we will lose a hand
$L = How much will we lose when we lose the hand

A
Coin flip game
Heads = +$3
Tails = -$1
How much money will we win on average?
EV = [%W * $W] – [%L * $L]
[0.5 * $3] - 0.5 * $1]
$1.50 - $0.50 = + $1
In the long run we can expect a + EV of $1
REMEMBER:
%W + %L = Always equals 100%
47
Q

Poker Math (Implied Odds)

The Implied Odds (shortcut)
The pot is $10 and villain bets $10.
You are getting 2:1 pot odds on the call, but you only have 25% equity.

A

Getting 2:1 but need 3:1
Gap of 1 * $Call = 1 * $10 = $10
You will need to make $10 extra dollars later in the hand to make this an acceptable call.
