policies to reduce unemployment Flashcards
(5 cards)
Why did Hitler want to reduce unemployment?
Because poor people may turn to other political parties, and the Nazis believed the poor were a burden on society
National Labour Service (RAD)
From July 1935, it was compulsory for all men aged 18-25 to serve the RAD for 6 months. They worked on job creation schemes
Why did people dislike the RAD?
The pay was low, the hours were long and the work was boring
Rearmament
The Nazis provided jobs by hiring people to make more ammunition, despite it being limited due to the Treaty of Versailles
The government statistics showed that unemployment was falling but what did they not include?
Jews being forced out of jobs, women being dismissed, minorities who were sent to concentration camps
