what does the term democracy mean?
a type of government where the people collectively hold power through open and fair electoral systems. where citizens can pick from competeing political parties
define dictatorship
a state ruled by one person/ group and they are all powerfull with the descisions taken for the state or country. eg Sudan
define anarchy
a state where there is no form of governance
define one party state
state where only one political party exists and takes over the country eg. north korea
define monarchy
a state where a royal family holds political power and power is passed down by generations. eg saudi arabia
define theocracy
a state where religious leaders run it. eg vatican city
what are the three types of democracy. define.
direct democracy-
citizens make decisions themselves on laws and policies, without elected representatives.
representative democracy- people elect a representative to make descisions on their behalf
liberal democracy-
A form of representative democracy that also protects individual rights and freedoms, usually through a constitution or law.

what is the nature of the british constitution?
unwritten + uncodified
tiers of government
international bodies, parliment, devolved national bodies(ireland,scot, wales), regional bodies, unitary/ couuntys,boroughs etc.
define uncodified, pros and cons
there are constitutional laws but they arent linked to eachother or labled as constitutional. -pros, enables changes to be made easily. cons, changes could be made that undermine existing constitutional rights.
define unwritten, pros and cons
there is no document called the british constitution only constitutional laws and convention. pros- changing parts of constitutional law easy. cons-gov has power to make any changes it wishes.
