Polkadot Flashcards
(10 cards)
what is polkadot?
Polkadot is a ‘scalable heterogeneous multi-chain’; a blockchain network that connects many different blockchains (called parachains) to one central chain (the Relay Chain) to share security, consensus, and communication.
Relay Chain
The central chain that provides security and coordination
Parachains
Independent blockchains connected to the Relay Chain
Heterogeneous Sharding
A blockchain design where multiple independent blockchains (shards — called parachains in Polkadot) run in parallel, each with its own rules, token, and consensus — yet they’re often connected to a central chain (like Polkadot’s Relay Chain) for shared security and cross-chain communication.
What kind of blockchain design does Polkadot use?
heterogeneous sharding
shards
General term used in sharding
Parachains
Polkadot’s unique name for its shards
agile coretime
async backing
elastic scaling
