Polygons and Concurrency vocabulary Flashcards
(15 cards)
interior angles of a triangle
the three angles inside any triangle
exterior angles of triangles
formed by a side and an extension of an adjacent side
remote interior angles
the two angles that are not adjacent to the exterior angle
polygon
a closed plane figure with at least 3 sides that are segments. the sides only intersect at their endpoints and no adjacent sides are colinear
equilateral polygon
a polygon that has all equal sides
equiangular polygon
a polygon that has all equal angles
regular polygon
a polygon that has all equal sides and angles
midsegment
a segment that connects the midpoint of two sides of a triangle
perpendicular bisector
a segment that bisects a side of the triangle and is perpendicular to that side
angle bisector
a ray that cuts an angle exactly in half
median of a triangle
a segment whos endpoints are a midpoint and the vertex of the opposite side of the triangle
point of concurrency/centroid
the point where 3 medians of a polygon intersect
altitude
a segment of a triangle that is perpendicular to one side of the triangle and contains the opposite vertex (may lie outside of a triangle)
orthocenter
the point where 3 altitudes intersect
circumcenter
the point where 3 perpendicular bisectors intersect
