Growing middle class - People had a means of disposable income and can now partake in leisure activities.
Bank Holidays Act 1871.
Changing social expectations and class relations post WWI - Different classes have met leading to cultural shifts (not so much of a divide). Growth of trade unionism and wider societal changes.
Holidays with Pay Act 1938.
Liberalisation of politics post WWII.
What led to mass tourism after WWII?
Increase in holiday camps in the UK. Many were formerly barracks from the war effort and converted.
Satirisation of ‘HI-de-hi’.
Working class and middle coming together in certain places creating a shared understanding.
