17
Q

FWB

A

75-100% with cane

18
Q

WBAT

A

As tolerated with cane or no-device

19
Q

Total knee arthroplasty precautions

A

Patient will be told how far he/ she can bend the operated knee, usually no precautions, avoid movements that twist the knee or cause pain such as kneeling, jumping or strenuous exercises, put only the amount of weight on operated leg as instructed by physician, walk as often as directed by surgeon

20
Q

Degenerative disc disease

A

Can result from injury, most common a result of degneration from the aging process

21
Q

Disc herniation

A

disc material extend beyond the intervertebral disc space; causes inflammation and secondary nerve root impingement

22
Q

Spinal stenosis

A

Narrowing of the spinal canal; typically caused by OA

23
Q

Spondyloisthesis

A

Anterior sliding of one vertebra over another; seen in older adults often due to degenerative changes in the facet joints

24
Q

Discectomy

A

Removal of herniated disc to alleviate pressure on spinal nerve root

25
Kyphoplasty
Minimally invasive; insert balloon to move return vertebra to normal position; balloon is removed & cement is injected to hold vertebra in place
26
Laminectomy
Removal of the lamina
27
Spinal fusion
Surgery eliminates unwanted motion caused by vertebral instability
28
Spinal surgery precautions
Avoid bending & twisting of neck and back, avoid carrying any item over 10 lbs, avoid reaching above 90 degrees of shoulder flexion, avoid sitting or standing in the same position for more than 30 minutes, don't drive until cleared by physician, be aware of orthotic wear schedule
29
OT interventions
Pt education concerning unloading and protecting involved joints and strengthening the muscles around joints is the key intervention, protection of surgical site during BADL and IADL, joint restriction protection during BADL and IADL, WBing restriction during BADL, IADL, environmental modification- DME/ AD
