Does potable water mean it’s pure?
No. It means it’s safe to drink, but contains lots of other dissolved substances.
What does the source of fresh water depend on?
Location.
What are the two places water can be collected from when it rains?
Surface water / from lakes, rivers and reservoirs.
Ground water / Collected in rocks that trap water underground.
What does fresh water need to be treated by to ensure it’s safe?
FILTRATION - Water passed through wire mesh, to filter out large things.
STERILIZATION -harmful bacteria killed, can be fine by bubbling chlorine gas through it or by using ozone (gas) or UV rate.
What needs to be removed from seawater to make it potable?
Remove salts through desalinization.
What does distillation do to remove salt from sea water?
What other thing can purify sea water?
Why are both these things not carried out often
It carries out desalinization,
Reverse osmosis can purify sea water, but this and distillation aren’t carried out often, as they need loads of energy and other sources of fresh water is available.
