- ‘king of kings: look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! nothing besides remains.’ this quote shows that power doesn’t last and that he and his city was destroyed by time
- ‘Half sunk, a shattered visage lies,’ his face is shattered, unfix-able, much like his reputation. shows how the statue has been destroyed by nature and time.

- he uses an elipsis (…) which resembles the passage of time
- alliteration (multiple ‘s’) which makes the poem longer to speak which ties in nicely with the idea of time

- ‘black’ning church appalls’ shows how the churches views are tainted, blackened, and they help and respect people based off of their status and not the fact that they are people
- ‘mind-forged manacles’ shows how people are being held back by their mindset and also shows how Blake is calling for a revolution, for people to break free

- ‘in grave and serious mood’ teh word grave shows how it reminds him of death, how his life is finite but nature’s isn’t and just how delicate his life is compared to something like the mountain.
- ‘huge and mighty forms, that do not live like living men’ they are eternals, so therefore they do not live a life in constant escape and fear of death
