What is sovereignty
Sovereignty is the right for a state to govern its people and control its resources and territory without external interference
What is territorial integrity
The principle that a country has the right to maintain its territorial boundaries
What things can violate sovereignty

What is a state
The area of land that is an organised body of people led by a single government
What is state apparatus
The set of instructions and organisations through which state power is achieved
What is a diaspora
A population that is scattered across regions that are separated from its geographic place of origin for example Jewish diaspora and also African diaspora after slave trade
What is a norm
Derived from moral principles, customs and behaviour that have developed over time throughout the world and are embedded in international law
What does intervention mean
An intervention is the actions of an international organisation in resolving conflicts or humanitarian crisis
What can cause territorial disputes
Contested areas for example the annexation of Crimea UK claim over Falkland islands
Separatism Claims for separation for example Basque or Catalan or Scottish nationalists
Movement of terrorists For example Türkiye Syria border where smuggling of foreign fighters oil weapons and other military supplies threaten territorial integrity
Contested maritime boundaries for example south China sea
Legacy of colonialism for example “scramble of Africa” where political boundaries were set very hard line
