Practical Exam 2 Flashcards
(36 cards)
PSIS*
start at iliac crest, come medial until a bony step
ASIS*
Supine
LV1*
Follow 12th rib up to attachment and count 1 downwards or find L4 at level of iliac crest and count up
LV5*
2 thumb widths above S2
SV2*
find PSIS, S2 is between both
Greater Trochanter*
PRONE
start at midpoint of lateral aspect of iliac crest, palpate inferiorly until bony prominence
ER and IR
Ischial Tuberosity
PRONE
gluteal folds
Adductor Longus
hip in slight flexion, neutral rotation, and slight knee flexion
palpate at pubic tubercle while performing isometric hip adduction
O: body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
I: middle 1/3 of the linea aspera
Gracilis
Perform isometric hip abduction while performing isometric knee flexion
O: body and inferior ramus of the pubis
I: pes anserine, superior/middle aspect of the tibia
Sartorius
flexion and ER of hip
ASIS to proximal tibia
O: ASIS and superior part of the notch inferior to it
I: pes anserine, superior/middle aspect of tibia
TFL
flexion, abduction, and IR of the hip
O: ASIS and anterior part of the iliac crest
I: iliotibial tract to the lateral tibial condyle
Rectus Femoris
extend knee, follow attachment to ASIS
O: ASIS and ilium superior to the acetabulum
I: base of patella via the quadriceps tendon and patellar ligament to the tibial tuberosity
Piriformis
O: anterior sacrum and sacrotuberous ligament
I: superior border of greater trochanter
Sciatic Nerve
Femoral Artery
midway between pubic tubercle and ASIS
Medial and Lateral Femoral Condyles*
Medial: from apex of patella palpate medially
Lateral: from apex of patella, palpate laterally
Head of Fibula*
Lateral and distal to the lateral femoral condyle
Tibial Tuberosity*
Start at patellar apex, follow inferior/distally with patellar ligament to distal attachment
Patellar Tendon/Ligament
Firm tissue distal to apex of patella
Biceps Femoris Tendon
Seated, knee in flexion with slight IR
Follow posteriorly and ask to resist flexion
O: ischial tuberosity
I: lateral head of fibula
Semitendinosis tendon
Palpate convexity of medial hamstring group, continue posterior and ask to resist knee flexion
O: ischial tuberosity
I: medial surface of superior tibia, pes anserine
Common Peroneal N
Palpate posteriorly from head of fibula and deep/medial to biceps femoris tendon
Apply anterior force and you’ll feel a soft rubbery structure
Also in prone, medial to biceps femoris tendon
Popliteal Artery
Prone
Ask to resist knee flexion, medial to tibial n and lateral to semitendinosis tendon
MCL
Palpate along medial joint line until finger is pressed out of the space slightly by the anterior edge of the ligament, continue palpation along joint line posteriorly until you feel posterior edge
