- recrystallisation

How do you carry out recrystallisation?
A
- choose a solvent that the pure compound is not soluble in at room temperature
- dissolve the impure solid in a minimum volume of hot solvent.
- Filter the hot solution to ensure there are no insoluble impurities
- Allow the solution to cool
- collect crystals by suction filtration
- wash crystals with a small amount of ice cold solvent
- Dry the crystals at room temperature
- check purity by measuring their melting point against a literature value
