A

The A-L-F checks are conducted on the crosswind element of the PFL pattern.

A (Abandon) - Should I abandon the aircraft?

L (Landing Gear) - Up or down, what is the landing surface?

F (Flaps) - Flap to T/O if appropriate (95kts)

What is SWARF and when is it used/conducted?

A

SWARF refers to the PFL/AFL actions after the aircraft is flying safely and the IAs (Immediate Actions) have been conducted.

S (Suitable Landing Area) - Point to base, if not possible, into wind to buy time and choose a field.

W (Wind) - Aim to make final approach into wind, therefore position into wind at High Key.

A (Altimeter) - Set and assess height available.

R (Radio Call) - If time permits

F (FRCs) - Confirm IAs and complete subsequent actions.
