I admire UKCOM’s commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive environment and to advancing health equity/addressing SDOHs. I think it is one thing to learn about these topics maybe once throughout the curriculum in an elective for example, but I think it is another thing to incorporate them throughout the entirety of the medical student curriculum through curricular threads like health equity and advocacy thread and health system science thread. It’s that constant reinforcement of these topics is what I think really makes a difference/impact on students and the way they not just retain but also apply that information through the family and community medicine and global health opportunities, such as FamTrack, TEAM Clinic, research, and global health scholarly concentration program. For someone like me who is really interested in advancing health equity and serving underserved populations, I really loved this aspect of the curriculum and it’s something that really drew me to UKCOM. I want to aid in the development of community education and wellness programs. I want to lead health initiatives that influence public policy and health delivery systems. I feel that UKCOM is a place where I could have so many opportunities through different tracks, programs, and electives to take my passions a step further and really tailor my education to the areas I want to focus on. UKCOM mission and curriculum perfectly align with my personal passions and aspirations which is why I think going to school like UKCOM that is already committed to mitigating SDOH and advancing health equity will really help to prepare me the work I hope to do in the future
