Hip Adduction

A

Adductors. grade 5(patient is on their side you pick up one leg and they attempt to bring their other leg with resistance to the same leg you have in hand). grade (patient is on their back in the supine position, you take their leg away from the midline and ask them to attempt to bring it back towards the midline.)

Hip Abduction

A

gluteus Medius. Grade 5 (patient is on their side with one leg slightly bent hips tilted forward and they are going to lift their leg off the table with my hand at the ankle resisting) Grade 0 (patient is in the supine position my hand at the hip with their legs together) Grade 1 (patient in the supine position with their legs together and they attempt to abduct one leg away from the other.

Hip Flexion

A

psoas major/illiacus. Grade 5 patient is sitting up on the table and they attempt to lift their knee off the table while their knee is bent and there is resistance applied. Grade 0 (patient is in a supine position, and you pick the patient’s leg up and feel for contraction in the hip) Grade 1 (patient is in the supine position, and you pick up the patient’s leg and attempt to flex the hip for them and feel for contraction.

Hip extension

A

Gluteus maximus. grade 5 (patient is on their stomach and lifts their leg up in the air with resistance at the ankle. grade 0 (patient is in the prone position) grade 1 (patient attempts to lift their leg from the table with therapist’s hand feeling the gluteus maximus for contractions.)

Hip internal rotation

A

Gluteus Mininimus. Grade 5 (the patient sits on the edge of the table and internally rotates their knee while there is a hand on the inside of the knee and a hand on the outside of the ankle. Grade 0(patient is in a supine position and attempts to internally rotate the knee but there is no contraction. Grade 1(patient is in a supine position and attempts to internally rotate the knee.

Hip External Rotation

A

Grade 5. (Patient sits on the edge of the table and while their knee is in internal rotation you have one hand on the outside of the knee and another on the inside of the ankle and apply resistance while the patient externally rotates the knee.) Grade 0(patient is in a supine position and starts in an internally rotated position and tries to externally rotate the knee but there is no contraction.) Grade 1 (patient is in a supine position and starts in an internally rotated position and tries to externally rotate the knee, little mmt)

Knee Flexion

A

Hamstring group. Grade 5(patient is in a prone position and is asked to flex the knee while there is resistance at the ankle). Grade 0 (patient’s leg is assisted flexed with the help of the therapist but there is no contraction.) Grade 1 (patient’s leg is assisted flexed with the help of the therapist with little contraction.

Grade 1(The patient is in a prone position and the therapist asks the client to extend the knee while palpating the knee for mmt but there is little mmt.)

A

Gastrocnemius and Soleus. Grade 5(the patient completes 25 heel raises) Grade 0(the patient is in a prone position and attempts to plantar flex the ankle but there is no mmt. Grade 1 (the patient is in a prone position and attempts to plantar flex the ankle but there is little mmt.

Ankle Dorsiflexion

A

Tibialis Anterior, Grade 5( the patient is sitting up on the table with the ankle hanging off and they are going to dorsiflex the ankle and invert” tell them don’t let me move you” and resistance the ankle where the big toe is.
