PRELIMS Flashcards
(25 cards)
The study of teeth forms , parts, arrangement, relationship and immediate associated parts that make up the Oral cavity
ORAL ANATOMY
Is the field of gross anatomy dedicated to the study of human tooth structures and other supporting structures found in the mouth
ORAL ANATOMY
Everything is found inside the mouth; space bounded by the lips anteriorly, the cheeks laterally, the pharynx superiorly, and the tongue/floor of the mouth inferiorly
Oral Cavity
Function of the Oral cavity:
Chewing of food, being broken down into smaller comp, moistening (saliva), swallowing for digestion
Mastication
Function of the Oral cavity:
Providing air passage, above the oral cavity, nasal cavity, and air passes. Mouth and nose share one passage lang for air
Passage of Air
Function of the Oral cavity:
the help of tongue, pronounce words, talk
Speech
- soft tissue that lines cavity
Oral Mucosa
A protective covering of the oral cavity (similar to the skin; not as strong )
Mucous membrane
lining inside of the mouth, lining the oral cavity
Mucous membrane
- Protective covering not as strong as skin
- Made up of stratified squamous epithelium
Mucous membrane
- Underlying connective tissue
- Color pink
- Has different thickness
- Covering the alveolar process
Lamina Propria
Attached to the bone, cheek area, and inner lips are thinner and loosely attached.
Hard palate
Thickened and keratinized (tongue/gingiva); subjective to chewing
covering areas in the cavity in chewing, gingival portion, tissues, and mucosa covering oral mucosa
*keratinized stratified squamous epithelium
- Masticatory Mucosa
Sense of taste; covering of the tongue for the taste alone
Has spec function for taste and dorsum of the tongue that contains special lyse mucosa, cont papilla that has taste buds
Specialized Mucosa
loosely attached(inner portion of cheeks and lips/ floor of mouth); found in the other areas of the oral cavity
all other areas like the inner portion of lips, cheek, and the floor of the mouth.
Lining Mucosa
Space in between the lips and the cheeks externally, and facial surfaces medially
Lift back to the teeth
ORAL VESTIBULE OR VESTIBULAR ORIS
Small (smaller are), antechamber or space bounded by the lips anteriorly, cheeks laterally, teeth and alveolar process medially
ORAL VESTIBULE OR VESTIBULAR ORIS
- horseshoe-shaped furrow lined by mucus membrane which is an area of reflection between roots of lips, boundaries of cheeks, and alveolar process medially
Fornix vestibuli (vestibular fornix)
- are where the alveolar process ends and meets either labial mucosa or buccal mucosa
Fornix vestibuli (vestibular fornix)
- Hard portion of the alveolar bone meets the mucosa of your lips. Like a junction between the end of the alveolar bone or the beginning of buccal mucosa
Fornix vestibuli (vestibular fornix)
a space bounded by the lip anteriorly, (between roots of the lip) cheeks laterally, and teeth and alveolar process medially.
Fornix vestibuli (vestibular fornix)
- boney sockets where teeth are housed,
- upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw(mandible)
Alveolar process
cheek and lip; lined by labial mucosa
Fornix vestibuli in the lip area
Mucolabial fold: Lateral boundary
Forming in the vestibular area, the fornix vestibule in the cheek area
Gums and teeth; alveolar process and the facial surface of the teeth
Mucobuccal fold: Medial Boundary
