DESCRIBE THE CLIENT IN THE PREPARATION STAGE

A

These clients are ready for change. They intend to adopt the behavior in the next 30 days. They are already taking small steps. These are the people who coaches are most accustomed to working with. They are the clients who are asking for help, and they are ready to go.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PREPARATION?

A

Pros>Cons….When people are in the preparation stage, the benefits to changing begin to outweigh the barriers. They can clearly see all the good reasons to make a change.

Have a Plan…They begin to make a solid plan for how to change and have taken some small steps.

Have Taken Small Steps…Perhaps they have joined a gym. They have sampled a few exercise classes or have scoped out the local bike path or yoga studio.

Decisive/Committed….People here are more committed and are making decisions about their behavior change. Often they will plan a start date, and because they have already taken some small steps, they are far more confident in their ability to make a change.

More Confident…They are ready to go, and they have begun to think about how to get past any barriers that may pop up.

“Ideal” Participants….All of these reasons make people in preparation ideal clients.

“I’m ready to”……“I’m ready to join a gym that’s up the street.”
“It’s time to”……“It’s time to start exercising.”
“I will”……“I will buy some new sneakers so I’m ready to go”
