Preparation of Salts Flashcards

1
Q

Ionic Precipitation is?..

A

Mixing two soluble salt solutions to form an insoluble salt, which precipitates out of the solution.

The precipitate is then collected, washed and dried to obtain the desired salt.

Q

Titration is?..

A

Controlled neutralization of an acid with a base (or vice versa) until the equivalence point is reached.

The resulting solution contains the salt, which can be isolated by evaporating the solvent.

Q

Reactive metals with acid

A

Metal is added to the acid and kept warm if necessary.

Metal is added until present in excess and effervescence stops

A piece of blue litmus is dipped into the solution and remains blue

The excess metal is filtered and the filtrate is collected

The water is evaporated and the salt is left to crystallize
