• The Scottish Government has, since 2011, put a focus on early and effective intervention (EEI) and appropriate support for young offenders. The number of crimes committed by U18s is at a 40 year low.
• The Early Intervention Foundation estimates that the cost of late intervention, including expenses related to crime, is nearly £17 billion annually
• A study in Washington found that for every $1 invested in juvenile detention alternatives, there was a return of $3.36 - $13 in terms of reduced crime

-45 children were found to be carrying bladed instruments and 2 boys - one of them just 11-years-old - were found carrying firearms.
- 3,172 searches were carried out on children aged 0-15 between April 2018 and June 2019 - and 62% were negative.
- In a report published last year, it was estimated in France black or Arab men were 20x more likely than others to be stopped by police for identity checks.
