what is the first defense line against pathogens?
skin, cilia, and stomach acid
how do cilia in the nose protect the body?
mucus-coated cilia in the nose trap the pathogens to stop them from entering the body and then releasing them when you blow your nose
how do cilia in the trachea and bronchi protect the body?
cilia in the trachea and bronchi moves pathogens to the throat to swallow into the stomach acid to be dissolved
what happens if pathogens make it past the first line of defense
if pathogens make it past the skin, nose, trachea, or stomach the immune system attacks them
where are white blood cells found?
found in the plasma of the blood
what do phagocytes do
a type of white blood cell, phagocytes destroy pathogens by surrounding them and digesting them
