Primary Flight Controls Flashcards
(15 cards)
Control used to adjust YAW?
RUDDER
Control used to adjust PITCH?
ELEVATORS
Controls used to adjust ROLL?
AILERONS
The 3 main ways of operating the flight control surfaces
MANUAL, PARTIALLY POWERED, FULLY POWERED
Gust Lock
A gust lock /control lock = an internal or external lock and may be fitted to the control surface or the cockpit control. They are made for when an aircraft is parked outside with strong or gusty winds, that could move the control surfaces, which would cause damage.
What limits RUDDER deflection?
Variable stops, ratio changer and blow-back
Blow-back
A system that applies a constant movement force to the rudder, the force being dictated by PEDAL DEFLECTION, which then deflects the rudder depending on the SPEED OF THE AIRFLOW.
An artificial feel system functions…
IN PARALLEL with an irreversible hydraulic actuator
ELEVATOR TRIM
ZERO force position of the control column does NOT change (control column/horn/stick does NOT move)
AILERON TRIM
Zero force position DOES change (control wheel turns in the direction of the trim)
RUDDER TRIM
Zero force position DOES change (pedals move in the direction of the trim)
The primary controls are…
Rudder, Elevators and Ailerons
Primary purpose of the a FLIGHT CONTROL LOCK
To lock the flight controls on the ground when the engines are off
IAS
Increasing Air speed
