Principle terminology : Planes and anatomical position Flashcards

1
Q

Anatomical position

A
  • Portrays the body upright, standing position , face and feet pointing forward, with the arms at the side , and the forearms fully supinated ( with palms facing forward)
  • accepted as the unambiguous starting point from which to being to describe anatomical fractures and positions

Q

Frontal (cornal) plane

cuts body front and back

A

vertical and extends from one side of the body to the other side
anatomical axes= antero posterior plane

anatomical example= cartwheel and moving arm to the side
abduction and adduction

Q

transverse ( horizontal plane)

cross section

A
horizontal and divides the body into upper and lower segments
anatomical axes= longitudinal axis
anatomical example= rotate the hips
figure skating

Q

sagittal ( median) plane

longitudinal left and right

A
vertical and extends from the front of the body to the back ( divide left and right)
anatomical axes= horizontal
anatomical example= flexion , extension
somersault
receiving cake
-parallel to median plane
-head , torso ,limbs

Q

Median plane

A

the mid line , longitudinal plane dividing the head and torso into right / left halves. is the middle sagittal plane
- presence of the vertebral column is a characteristic of the median plane of the torso
