What is latent learning?
Incidental learning - animal acquires knowledge by observing something but may only use that knowledge later on.
E.g. animal exploring surroundings and learning the location of its home - useful for food finding or escaping predators.
What is insight learning?
Animal uses cognition to suddenly find a solution to a problem without trial and error or stimulus response learning.
E.g. Chimpanzees using tools.
What is habituation? Provide an example.
Reactions to a stimulus decrease or stop after repeated exposure.
E.g. dog stopping barking when newborn baby cries.
What is meant by cognition?
Mental processes leading to knowledge and understanding, including the use of memory and senses.
What is filial and sexual imprinting?
