principles of homeostasis Flashcards
what is the definition of homeostasis?
keeping internal condition as constant as possible
what is meant by internal conditions?
body temp will rise lose water through sweating
why is homeostasis used?
use to keep blood glucose concentration the body temperature and water levels constant
what are the general features of an automatic control system?
receptor cells, coordination centre, effector
what is a stimulus?
changes to the environment
what are the receptor cells?
detect change in stimulus - internal changes- glucose levels- external - temp of skin
what is the coordination centre?
brain, spinal cord, pancreas- receives and processes info from receptor cells
what is the effector?
coordination centre sends info to the effector- muscle or gland- carry out response
