Small scale, minimal set up costs, durable, wide range of colours, vivid colours, set up is slow, slow printing speed
What are the 5 features of flexographic printing?
Cheap printing, large scale, fast speed, high set up cost, low quality
What are the 5 features of offset lithographic printing
High quality images, large/small scale, high set up cost, fast production of printing plates, can use metallic inks
What are the 5 features of digital printing
Set up cost and print price is low, fast and efficient, highly detailed, suitable for large/small print runs, increased customisation
What are 3 negatives of screen printing?
Set up time slow, print speed slow, only does small print runs
What are the 5 negatives of flexographic printing?
High set up cost, low quality images, inks less bright, set up is time consuming, not suitable for small print suns as it is time consuming to change the print content
What are the 4 negatives of offset lithographic printing
High set up cost, variation in colour due to water content, paper can stretch due to moisture, plates can oxidise die to moisture
What are the 3 negatives of digital printing
More expensive for large quantities, less range of inks, less range of substrate material
How does screen printing work
1)The image is created on a mesh screen by blocking off the areas where ink ins’t required
2) the mesh screen is placed above the substrate and locked in place
3) ink is placed over the screen and forced through with a squeegee.
4) a different screen is required for each colour

How does flexographic printing work
1) flexible printing plates are wrapped around rotating cylinders
2) ink is fed onto the roller
3) this is transferred to the plate cylinder and impression cylinder which applies pressure to transfer the image
What is flexographic printing used for?
Newspapers, comics, packaging, wallpaper, carrier bags
How does offset lithographic printing work
It is based on the principle that oil and water don’t mix. Plates are chemically treated to make the image area absorb oil based inks. Areas that are not image areas are treated to absorb water easily. The water ensures the ink doesn’t bleed into areas that are non image areas
What is offset lithographic printing used for?
Books, magazines, posters, packaging
