probability Flashcards
(8 cards)
trial
the act of doing an experiment in probability
sample space
the set or list of all possible outcomes
outcome
one of the possible results in a trial
event
the occurance of one or more specific outcomes
relative frequency
a good estimate of the true probability of an event, provided that the number of trials is sufficiently large
mutually exclusive
two events e and f are said to be mutually exclusive if e intersection f is null
what are independant events
two events are said to be independant if the occurance of one in no way affects the likelihood of the ocurrence of the other
bournoulli trial
a trial whose outcome is random and is just one of two possibilities, which are called ‘success’ and ‘failure’
