Process of PCR Flashcards
(6 cards)
Step One
Denature the DNA strand
- sample is heated to 94-96°C
What is PCR?
A process used by scientists that copies small segments of DNA very quickly.
Step Two
Primers
- temperature is lowered to 50-65°C
- left and right primers base pair with complementary sequences
Step Three
Synthesis
- temperature is raised to 72°C
- Taq Polymerase attached at each priming site
- synthesized new DNA strand
What next?
Process continues for however many strands they want replicated.
What is it used for?
- replicate DNA for lab procedures
- produces millions of copies
• no bacteria needed
