Production Casing Flashcards
Prep For Cement Breakout Presentation (11 cards)
How far does the production casing extend to
From surface to the producing zones of the formation
What does the production casing house
Production tubing, downhole pumps, and other equipment needed to produce oil and gas
What must the production casing cement job do
It must give a pressure-tight seal between the formations and the production casing
What problems can occur if fluids interacting with oil in the casing strings
If oil, water, and gas contact eachother in the wellbore, emulsions, scale deposits, paraffin deposits, severe corrosion and production decline can occur
What are the major purposes for production casing
Completes well for production
- Effect zonal isolation
- Protect pay zones from unwanted fluids
Provides pressure control
Cover worn or damaged intermediate casing
Provide a place to change out drill fluids to completion fluids which are compatible with the formations
What is a good substitue for production casing
Liners
Why would a oil company choose to run liners vs
production casing
Major cost savings
Much less pipe weight
What are the characteristics of production casing
Common sizes of casing used are 4 1/2in, 5 1/2in, and 7 in
Drilling mud needs to be in good conidtion
Cement usually not circulated to surface but generally circulated back to the intermediate casing
Good cement job is vital to a successful completion
Recommended Cement for Production Casing
Filler cements with high strength tail slurries
All potential pay zones are usually covered by low water ratio cements
Densified cements are commonly used for high competency and pressure control
Fluid loss control is usually necessary
What type of mixing is usually run for production casing
Batch mixing or continuous batch mixing
What products do we pump downhole for good mud removal
Spacers
Mud Flushes
