Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a diverse team?

A

A diverse team has the benefits of offering a more diverse range of views and reduces the risk of a project suffering from tunnel vision. It also helps people feel more comfortable and included as part of the team as there is less risk of feelings of isolation.

A more diverse team may have communication challenges to overcome due to different communication styles, but this challenge is worth overcoming

Q

How do you know you are acting within your competency limits?

A

If I’ve not done something before then I know that whatever work I complete needs to be checked and approved by persons with the relevant experience and accreditation.

If I have experience in something then I may have the competency to check the work of others however, that work still needs to be approved by at very least a Chartered Civil Engineer, up to an All Reservoir Panel Engineer

Q

Name an example of when you have been ethically challenged and how did you cope with that situation?

A

The EA had asked Mott MacDonald to provide an ARPE to complete a safety inspection for a reservoir and advise the EA on whether any outstanding MIOS had been completed.

For this reservoir in particular, the Supervising Engineer was also a Mott MacDonald employee so there was a conflict of interest for the ARPE. I explained this to the EA and politely declined the task instruction which they accepted.
