Project Planning Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are common components of a project planning document?
Introduction, project organisation, risk analysis, hardware and software, work breakdown, project schedule, monitoring plans.
What is a milestone in project management?
The endpoint of an activity with measurable outcome.
What does a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) do?
Breaks the project into manageable tasks.
What is the critical path in a PERT chart?
The longest path (worst case) helps you determine the cost for the worst case rather than the best case
What are Gantt charts used for?
Visualizing project schedule with time and dependencies.
What is a deliverable?
A result delivered to the customer at the end of a task.
What is the purpose of project re-planning?
To handle deviations from plan and re-estimate time and cost.
What are story points in Agile?
A measure of effort required to complete a user story.
What is a burndown chart in Agile?
A visual representation of remaining work over time.
How is project cost estimated in COCOMO II?
Using Effort = A × Size^B × M, based on historical data and multipliers.
A - constant size based on organisational overheads
Size - size estimate on code or amount of functionality
B - size of project, likelihood of overrun
M - multiplier for product/process/people attributes
Milestones and outputs
Each task should produce a tangible output
Tasks should be a few weeks in size
What are the two main approaches for budget estimates?
By the work that needs doing (then estimating developer time)
By the developer time (then defining how much work to do)
Costing based on expected plans
Identify main risks and activities
Estimate the min-max time the project will takes
Add a contingency or use formulas
