Mission of JLP
To motivate students to become better citizens.
Motto
Responsible citizenship with commitment to community and school service.
Honor Code
I do not lie, cheat, or steal and I will always be accountable for my actions.
Leadership
The ability to lead, guide, and influence others to accomplish the mission, in the manner desired, by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while improving the unit.
Chain of Command
The succession of commanders superior to subordinate, through which authority is passed, commands are given, and feedback goes back up.
Purpose of the Chain of Command
To ensure that all members are working together as a team to accomplish their individual and unit tasks.
Preparatory Command
tells you what to do and prepares you for action
Command of Execution
tells you to do it in one count
All commands are called in what cadence?
Quicktime.

Unity of Command
In every effective unit, there is one person who is responsible for everything that unit does and fails to do.
Span of Control
The number of immediate subordinates one person can effectivly control, supervise, and direct.
Purpose
gives subordinates the reason to act in order to achieve a desired outcome.
Direction
communicating how to accomplish a mission: prioritizing tasks, assigning responsibility for completion, and ensuring subordinates understand the standard.
Motivation
supplies the will to do what is necessary to accomplish a mission.
Direct
a leadership style where the leader tells team members directly what to do and specifically how to do it; least preferred; least preferred.
Delegation
a leadership style where the leader delegates problem-solving and decision-making authority to a teammate or to a group of followers;
Participatory
a leadership style where the leader consults with, obtains advice from, and asks the opinions of one or more followers before making a decision; most preferred.
Two Responsibilities of a Leader
- Mission accomplishment (most important)
- Troop welfare
