What is the composition of protein?
- Carbon
- Oxygen
- Hydrogen
- Nitrogen
What is high biological value (HBV) proteins?
High biological value contains all of the essential amino acids. Found in animal sources e.g. milk and meat.
What is Low biological value (LBV) protein?
Low biological value dose not contain any of the essential amino acids. It is found in plant sources e.g. nuts and peas.
What are the functions of protein?
- Growth and repair.
- Hormones, antibody and enzymes.
- Heat and energy.
What is the composition of carbohydrates?
- Carbon.
- Hydrogen.
- Oxygen.
Name the sources of carbonate and two examples each.
- Sugar - honey and cake
- Starch - pasta and cereal.
- Dietary fibre - whole cereal and wholemeal bread
What is calories measured in?
Kilocalories and kilojoules.
How much calories does a (a) average woman (b) average man eat in a day?
(A) a woman needs 2000 calories a day.
(B) a man needs 2500 calories a day.
What dose BMR mean and stand for?
BMR - basil metabolic rate. Basic amount of energy the body needs in order to keep the bodies organs functioning while at rest.
What is energy balance?
Energy balance is when energy input is equal to energy output.
How much protein does a person need a day?
1g per one 1kg of body weight
