psych final Flashcards
(28 cards)
What is Psych the science of?
BEHAVIOR
What is Determinism?
the idea that every event is necessitated by antecedent events and conditions.
Behavior has causes and is related to environmental events True or False
TRUE
Phylogenetic history?
Biologicial / Genetic history
Ontogenetic History?
individual behavioral history/life experience
What is private events?
Can only be observed by one person ( ex. tooth ace)
What are public events?
Public events can be observed by many ( ex. a kick to the groin)
RESPONDENT BEHAVIOR
S««_space;R
OPERANT BEHAVIOR
R«««S
What is the respondent behavior?
Organism responds to stimuli or reflexes
Operant behavior
Behavior primarily controlled by the consequences it produces. Voluntary behavior
What are the two reinforcements?
Positive and neg
What is direct replication?
Exactly recreating the experimental conditions
What is systematic replication?
Replicating experimental findings using different but relevant procedures
What is reinforcement?
An increase in the frequency of operant behavior
What is punishment?
A decrease in the frequency of operant behavior
What are behavioral operations?
Postitive- The addition of stimuli
Negative- Stimuli are removed
What are ratio schedules?
Schedules of reinforcement based on the number of emitted responses
What are interval schedules?
Schedules of reinforcement based on time since the last consequence occurred.
What is Aversive Stimuli?
Events that organisms avoid or escape from.
What is avoidance?
Responding prevents or postpones an aversive stimulus
What are the 2 ways negative reinforcement happens?
- Avoidance
- Escape
What is escape?
Responding removes an aversive stimulus
what does positive punishment look like
- spanking
- scolding
