major depressive episode –> hypermanic episode –> manic episode
bipolar disorder
constant up and down depressive episodes - disorder for life
personality disorders
destructive patterns that deviates from epectations of an individuals culture , difficulty percieving and relating to others -> generally life long
alcohol/drug & personality disorders
alcohol/drug ease the symptoms of PD –> aggresiveness, self-destructives, relationshsip problems and work dsyfunction
Antisocial disorders
deceptive and manipulative to gain personal benefit –> disregarding the wishes, rights and feelings of others, impulsive, irritability and aggression ==> may suddenly change jobs, or move residence.
borderline personality disorder
instbility in relationships, moods and self-image –> impulsive, self-damaging, suicidal behaviours, unstable mood and feeling of emptiness
psychotic disorders
loss touch w/ reality, trouble communication, sense of feelings, thoughts and perceptions ar eseverly altered. ==> delusions, hallucinations
schizophrenia
most common psychotic disorder, - affects ability to think, feel and act & loose touch with society

misinterpretation of perceptions or experiences
hallucinations
false perceptions in absences of sensory imput/disturbance of sensory perceptions –> auditory, olfactory, tactille, gustatory
