the ego is the reality principle, it’s the mediator and aims to resolve conflict between the ID and SuperEgo
What is the SuperEgo
it is the morality principle, it punishes the ID for wrongdoing through guilt
what is one weakness of the psychodynamic approach?
it is unscientific as the unconscious mind can’t be observed
what is the second weakness of the psychodynamic approach?
deterministic- argues behaviour is out of our control, over emphasise role of the unconscious and fails to acknowledge free will
What is the third weakness of the psychodynamic approach ?
Largely based on cases studies like little hans who had a phobia of horses which frued argued was due to a displaced fear of his dad, little hans is only one person meaning you can’t generalise to the wider population

shows how childhood can influence adulthood

psychoanalysis as a treatment using knowledge of the unconscious mind
