what is atypical behaviour
behaviours not displayed by majority of people in a populatuon or is inconsistent with the way an individual normally behaves

behaviour of the majority of people in a population or behaviour that is consisten with the way an individual normally behaves

what are cultural perspectives
functioning or coping adequately in a particular society
what is the usefulness of cultural perspectives
behaviours can be explained when cultural context is considered
limitations of cultural perspectives
different cultures often have different ideas about acceptable behaviours.
normality may not be consistent in every culture
whats an example of limitations in cultural perspectives
if your argentinian you may kiss someone on the cheek when you greet them which would be useful in argentina but if it was done in Australian to someone who isn’t argentinian it would be considered atypical

fitting in with commonly occuring characteristics in society
whats the usefulness of statistical rarity
commonly occuring characteristics or behaviours that are seen as accepted by society
limitations of statistical rarity
extreme characteristics are desireable but also considered abnormal
whats personal distress
expreiencing a level of distress that doesn’t prevent usual activities
whats the usefulness of personal distress
allows people to evaluate how they’re feeling without comparison to others
what are the limitations of personal distress
subjectively measured
complete lack of behaviours may cause distress
results in boredom - low level of distress
what is maladaptive behaviour
stop a person from developing or functioning in their day to day lives and limit their ability to adjust to hanging circumstances

whats usefulness of maladaptive behaviour
assist in the identification of problems such as substance abuse mental illness and other psychopathologies
what are the limitations of maladaptive behaviour
confused with bad or wrong behaviours
whats an example of maladaptive behaviour
drinking alcohol everyday or doing drugs everyday will affect your day to day functioning
what are social norms
obeying popular or common standards in a particular social situation
what is usefulness of social norms
there are some universal rules like how all cultures consider it normal to be able to communicate with others and behave in a particular fashion
what are the limitations of social norms
people not obeying social norms may be considered as atypical without the context being considered
