Q

Peoples lives can become determined

A
  • Carl Rogers believed people are born with the ability to freely respond to life and have their own thoughts and ideas.
  • But this freedom can be lost through external pressures
  • To grow up with a strong, free willed personality, children need 3 things:
    1) Genuineness - freedom to express their thoughts
    2) Acceptance - Unconditional love
    3) Empathy - feeling understood
  • if these are not met children may copy others instead of acting freely

Q

Self actualisation

A
  • Even though people can be shaped by outside pressures, free will is still possible through self actualisation - a process where someone connects with their true feelings and acts on them
