Belongingness and love needs
Achievement, Status, responsibility, reputation
Esteem needs
Knowledge, meaning, self-awareness
Cognitive needs
Beauty, balance, form, etc
Aesthetic Needs
Personal Growth, self-fulfillment, etc
Self-actualization
Helping others to self-actualize
Transcendence

Carl Rogers
Two concept of the self;
- Actual Self
- Ideal Self
one’s view of self
as one wishes to be.
Ideal Self
one’s being and one’s experiences that are
perceived in awareness (though not always accurate) by the individual.
Actual
Self
a state when a person’s self-image matches their ideal self.
Congruence
Three Methods that are used by the therapist;
- Unconditional Positive Regard
- Empathy
- Genuineness
accepting, valuing, and
being positive toward another person regardless of the person’s behavior
Unconditional Positive Regard
listening, understanding and being sensitive to others’ feelings. It is putting yourself in the shoes of others and looking at their world from their point of
view
Empathy
being open with our feelings and dropping our pretenses and facades.
