Hostile aggression
-angry and impulsive aggression
-accompanied by physiological arousal – increased heart rate and blood pressure
-often physical but sometimes verbal
instrumental aggression
-using aggression to get what you want
-it’s planned and not accompanied by physiological arousal
-can be physical of verbal and usually intended to provoke a response
-example, bullying
violent aggression
-using physical force to cause injury to others
-all violent behaviour is aggressive but not all aggression is violent
-example, punching, kicking
verbal aggression
-involves using words to psychologically damage another person
-can be instrumental when used to undermine someone
-can be hostile
-example, shouting and swearing
