Psychometery Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is pyschrometery?
The study of moist air and the use of these properties to analyse conditions and processes involving moist air.
Why is understanding water vapour conditions essential for predicting its interaction and impact on buildings?
Water vapour induces moisture absorption in materials and transport within construction assemblies. It helps determine the air conditioning process as water may need to be introduced or removed.
Why use a pyschrometric chart?
To identify properties of most air.
Useful to analyse air conditioning process.
Dry bulb temperature
Air temperature measured by thermometer, not affected by moisture
Wet bulb temperature
Used together with dry bulb temperature to find the relative humidity
Dew point temperature
The temperature at which the moisture would condense if the moist air were cooled at a constant pressure.
Determines if water will be condensed from air when it is cooled.
Moisture content
Ratio of the mass of water to the mass of dry air in the mixture.
g= mass of water vapour/ mass of dry air (kg)
Percentage saturation
Ratio of the specific humidity of air to the specific humidity of saturated air at the same temperature
Specific volume
Volume per kg dry air
Specific enthalpy
Heat energy content of humid air per kg dry air
