Systemic desensitization is a type of behavioral therapy: involves relaxation, hierarchy of anxiety situations, then exposure (least to most anxiety-producing)

- Psychodynamic psychotherapy is similar to psychoanalysis, but less of the classic format with inclusion of present events not just past

It is helpful for pts with schizophrenia to have family reduce expressed emotions as that can exacerbate issues

4 Ds of malpractice
4 Ds of malpractice:
- Duty existed toward patient by psychiatrist
- Deviation from standard practice occurred
- Deviation directly caused bad outcome
- Damages occurred as a result
Most common cause of psych malpractice
Improper treatment is the most common cause of psych malpractice
What type of judgement should surrogate decision makers use? Not use?
Surrogate decision makers should use substituted judgement, meaning they choose as the person they are choosing for would if they could do so. Should not choose what’s best for the pt, choose as they would.
