Q

What is the alveolus?

Q

What is the Residual Volume?

A

The RV is the ‘left’ amount of air you have in your lungs that cannot be exhaled; it maintains shape of your lungs

Q

What is the diaphragm?

A

The diaphragm is the muscles that separates the upper and lower body. It also controls breathing, as it contracts and expands for you to inhale/exhale

16
Q

What are cartilage rings?

A

Cartilage rings are the structural support of the trachea, that keeps the tracheas shape from colliding in on itself.

17
Q

What is the Inspiratory Reserve Volume?

A

The IRV is the extra amount of air that can be inspired after a regular breath movement

18
Q

What is the Expiratory Reserve Volume?

A

The ERV is the extra amount air that can be expired after a regular breath movement

19
Q

What are gills?

A

Gills are the ‘lungs’ of fish, they allow water to pass through them and takes/gives oxygen/waste as the fish moves, in order to keep receiving oxygen. It’s like lungs, if air passed through them

20
Q

What is the larynx?

A

The larynx is the area of the throat that holds the responsibility of breathing, talking, and eating.

21
Q

What is the epiglottis?

A

The epiglottis is the little muscle flap that blocks/allows food/air to go down its respective tube

22
Q

What is Diffusion?

A

Diffusion is where something from a low concentration moves to a high concentration, in an attempt to balance concentration

23
Q

What are the lungs?

A

The lungs are a pair of large sacs that provide an area for air to enter and come in contact with blood, in order for diffusion

24
Q

What is the bronchus?

A

The bronchus is the tube that connects the windpipe to the lung

25
What is the glottis?
The glottis is the middle region inside your larynx. It contains the vocal folds in order for sound to be produced.
26
What is countercurrent flow?
Countercurrent flow is used in gills. The water passing by is flowed in one way while the blood is flowing the other, for the most diffusion-surface possible.
27
What is cellular respiration?
Cellular respiration is when cells use oxygen and glucose to produce energy (ATP)
