Pulmonary Disease Ddx Flashcards
Main Cheif Complaints of Pulmonary Disease
Dyspnea
Hemoptysis
Chest Pain
Cough
What are the “categories” of dyspnea?
- Air hunger or Suffocation
- Increased effort or work of breathing
- Chest Tightness
Clinical Considerations for Dyspnea
When dyspnea is stimulated versus the normal for that same activity
Patient limitation by activity
Acute versus Chronic
Noted Tachypnea
Noted Hyper/Hypo-capnia
Noted Exertional Fatigue
What is Orthopnea?
Shortness of breath while assuming the recumbent position
What is the cause of Orthopnea?
Increased venous return results in pulmonary edema
What is Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea?
Waking up from sleep with dyspnea
What is the cause of PND?
OSA and because of Increased intravascular volume due to slow monbilization of fluid while asleep
What is Platypnea?
Dypnea while upright
What is Trepopnea?
Dyspnea while lying on one side
