What is a pure substance?
Substance made of only one type of atom or molecule
What does it mean for a substance to be deliquescent?
It absorbs moisture from the environment and dissolve in water
Examples include NaOH and KOH.
What does hygroscopic mean?
It refers to substances that can form hydrates but don’t dissolve in water
An example is anhydrous Na2CO3.
What is efflorescence substances?
It is the process of losing water of crystallization on exposed to atmosphere and become anhydrous
An example is Na2CO3·10H2O.
What are the two main types of pure substances?
Elements and compounds.
Pure substances have uniform and definite composition.
