8
Q

Why might a Fe2+ solution already tested with NaOH, have its green precipitate turn brown after a while?

A

Fe2+ salts will be oxidised by the oxygen in air to form Fe3+, so the green precipitate will turn brown.

16
Q

Test for oxygen

A

Place a glowing splint to the end of the test tube, relights it

17
Q

Test for chlorine

A

Place litmus paper near the gas, bleaches the litmus (blue, red, white)

18
Q

Test for ammonia gas

A

Place red litmus paper near the end of the test tube, turns blue

19
Q

Test for carbon dioxide

A

Bubble through limewater, white precipitate formed

20
Q

Test for water

A

Add to anhydrous copper sulfate (white), turns it blue

21
Q

Test for pure water

A

Test its boiling point, if boils at 100C then only water is present
