Quality Control Flashcards
What is quality control?
When products are checked to ensure that they are manufactured to a high enough standard.
Checks should be made at every stage of the manufacturing process.
What do quality control checks involve?
Testing materials, products, components to check that they have been made to a high enough standard and they meet the manufacturing specification.
Are all the materials tested?
No, usually only a sample of them, as checking them all would take too much time.
What is tolerance?
The required accuracy of a measurement. It is the margin of error that is considered as acceptable (small enough not to affect the product’s functionality).
What are tolerances usually given in?
An upper limit and a lower limit (+_).
What condition should a product meet in order to pass through any size checks in quality control?
Within the tolerance
What are go/no go fixtures?
Limit gauges that check to see whether the size of a part is within its tolerance.
What are the qualities of go/no go fixtures?
- often double ended, where one end is matched to the lower limit and the other end to the upper limit of tolerance
- checks do not take very long, much quicker than measuring the actual dimensions of the product.
What is a registration mark?
A mark that checks whether printing plates are aligned in the correct position or not.
What is a colour registration mark?
A mark that normally appears as a cross shape - it is used to check the quality of colour printing onto paper and board.
How do you check repeating prints are being printed correctly onto fabric?
Compare prints to an original sample print by eye.
