What is quantitative data?
They are numerical data that can be analysed to identify patterns, trends and correlations within society.
Who favours quantitative data?
Positivists
What does quantitative focus on?
Data that can be measured, counted and statistically analysed.
Why is quantitative data objective?
Since it’s based on numerical data it is seen to be less influenced by researcher bias.
What are some types of quantitative data?
-Surveys and questionnaires as they are usually closed ended questions with yes or no answers and multiple choice.
-official statistics as it is numerical data collected by the government like unemployment rates and crime statistics.
What are some advantages of quantitative methods?
-reliable as standardised methods means a research can be repeated with consistent results
-generalisable as quantitative methods uses large samples which makes it easier to apply findings to wider society
What are some limitations of quantitative methods?
-lacks depth as it doesn’t provide details
-the way questions are phrased may influence a response which can affect validity
