Q

What is the work function

A

The minimum amount of energy/frequency for an electron needs to be released from the metal surface

Q

What were Bohr’s proposals on the model of the hydrogen (4)

A

The electron in a hydrogen atom has defined energy states - moves from one to the other through absorbing/emitting radiation

Electron revolves around nucleus in circular orbit - electrostatic attraction between proton and electron balanced by potential energy

Only quanta of energy are used - thus concentric orbits

As energy increases by a quantum amount, electron is promoted to higher state - same quanta of energy emitted if electron returns to same state

Q

What was he drawback of Bogrs proposals

A

Electrons move in circular path - creates changing magnetic field

Rotating charge would emit radiation thus orbiting electron would fall into nucleus
