question 2 Flashcards
(4 cards)
inverted u theory
performance is at its best when arousal level are moderate
too much or too little arousal can cause a decline in performance
increases in arousal can improve performance but only to an optimal point
catastrophe theory
increasing arousal leads to increased performance up to an optimal level
arousal simply becomes too high for the performer to cope with
performance is uncoordinated and more out of control than normal
shock at how bad the performance is may increase anxiety even further
IZOF
the zone of optimal functioning is related to athletes being in their ‘flow state’ which it is proposed requires different levels of arousal for each individual
multidimensional theory
martens et al proposed a series of two dimensional relationships between cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, self confidence and performance
