A
set list of questions asked in the same way every time
usually self-completion but can be done over the phone or face to face
can use open questions which allow respondent to answer any way they wish
usually consist of mainly closed questions which creates quantitative data

A
no way of stopping research if someone is upset
questions may be misunderstood
they often obtain quantitative data
response rate can be low

A
relatively cheap compared to interviews
relatively quick to conduct compared to interviews
often obtain quantitative data
they can be geographically widespread
